Hike & Float: Helen, GA Day Trip

  • Helen Georgia

The group will leave the church at 9am Saturday morning and drive to Helen, GA (about 2 hours from CBC). First stop will be at Unicoi State Park around 11am for a beautiful scenic hike to Anna Ruby Falls, along a half mile paved trail that runs from the parking lot to two viewing decks. Bring water and your own lunch and enjoy a bite to eat after the hike. After lunch, we will head over to Cool River Tubing to snag a tube and float the scenic Chattahoochee River for an hour or two. Regular clothes are fine for this activity (shorts recommended). If you'd like to skip the hike and just meet up at Cool River Tubing, we plan to arrive there between 12:30-1pm. After the float, there are many fun activities and shops to explore in the nearby Alpine village of Helen, GA.

Unicoi State Park: $3 per person recreation use fee; children age 15 and under get in free.

Cool River Tubing: $8 per person all ages; appropriate for ages 3+ (tubes for children ages 3-12 have bottoms in them)

Come by around 6pm for grilled burgers and hot dogs, and plan to bring a side dish, dessert or drink to share. There will be music, indoor and outdoor games, two-person boating, catch-and-release fishing, and a kid-friendly movie or two showing on the big screen. At dusk, we'll break out the sparklers and do a mini-show at the firepit, then the much anticipated Fireworks Extravaganza will begin around 9pm. Bring folding chairs, blankets, cameras and flashlights & enjoy the show!
